Keep it Simple

I haven’t posted anything in a while, mostly because we have been so busy lately. I came across this minimalist poster, which lately I have a love for. I think that’s because minimalist posters teach us one important thing, keep it simple. The more things I encounter in life and the more tests and ups and downs that we go through I find that one little rule saves a lot of pain and trouble. Lately I have been trying to write again and find my voice and keep on finding myself trying to come up with the next greatest story ever told. When in actuality I should just focus on trying to write and get all of my thoughts out and on page errr screen. Who is Spider-man, Batman, Iron Man? They are complex characters that have gone through tremendous character development and changes in their own respective stories, even origins. But, that wasn’t written in one day, or even one year. They have been around for years and years and that’s why we are intrigued by them today. But, in the beginning, Batman was just a rich boy who lost his parents and wanted to make sure no one else suffered the same fate. Spider-man was a nerd who gained great powers but made a poor decision and it cost him his beloved Uncle. And, Iron Man was a millionaire playboy who didn’t care about anything or anyone until his own business almost took his life. When you get down to it, some of the best stories, even in history, are the simplest ones.

I think I’m missing Doctor Who… can’t wait for...

I think I’m missing Doctor Who… can’t wait for the next season to start, but then I’ll be sad when it’s over because it’s Amy and Rory’s last ride in the T.A.R.D.I.S. Oh well. Moffat knows what’s doing. As long as he is captain of the ship I’m sure it will be a fun ride.

Keeping Awake

I just read a review for a new show on NBC called Awake on IGN (one of my favorite sites ever). They gave it 10! That’s right, a perfect score. Do you know how rare it is for IGN to give a 10. 10’s go to great games like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Chrono Trigger, the first Soulcalibur on Dreamcast and Uncharted 3. But a TV pilot getting a perfect 10, that’s just unreal to me. I’ve seen the best of the best TV pilots on regular non-cable TV and even one of the best ever, LOST, still had it’s flaws and slowly broke down over time. I was still a fan tho because it had some tremendous writing sometimes. I think that’s why I’m eager to check it out. It’s fresh, it’s different, and very bold for NBC or any network for that matter.

But is it too bold? It always seems like the best, most dynamic shows get written off in a year or two. I’ve even formed a rule for myself where I don’t start watching a show unless it makes it to the third season. Why? Three words, I - Loved - Daybreak. I thought it was one of the best shows on TV. I got invested in it, pondered where it would go, or what it would do next. Then, 12 episodes in, ABC cancelled it. Just like FOX cancelled Firefly, and so many more ingenious shows. I sometimes wish there was some network that would only pickup great shows like this after the major networks throw them away, so at least some of us can have our TV closure.

Well, I hope NBC does decide to keep Awake, or somebody does. Great writing and acting deserves to be rewarded. I only hope some day I can produce a script that gets a 10 on the IGN scale. Here’s hoping….

Here’s an old project that I never did anything with. I had a client that had a clothing boutique called My Sister’s Closet. She needed some logo design done, so I came up with these three logos and she hated all three. The End.

An obsession with Cinemagraphs

Have you seen these things? I mean really, have you seen them. I don’t know what it is, but I just think these things are the greatest art project evah. If you don’t know what a Cinemagraph is check ‘em out.

Anyway, one of these days when I actually get some money to buy a nice camera (and a new version of Photoshop) I’m going to start making these things like crazy, I just find them so captivating. Actually, my golden idea is to make a whole bunch of them of my friends and then put them in digital frames in our house, so they will intrigue and creep people out. Here’s my first attempt at one, using a clip from the Dark Knight. Not my best work, but hopefully it will get better.
